It took one fantasy flick to knock another out of the top spot.
"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" raked in $67.1 million in its debut weekend. "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" grossed over $100 million during its weekend release and remained #1 until this weekend. The film has since earned about $244 million in North America since hitting theaters on November 18.
Interesting, if you care about that sort of thing.

man, it has been a LONG time since I was so anticipating a movie, and it did not disappoint! saw it last night and it was fantastic.
only "bad" points were a couple of awkward moments with Peter and his sword (which was just being realistic, I suppose), and I might have wished for some more of Edmund's "how do we know Aslan is really good and not the witch?" arguments. that said, the movie was already 2 hr, 12 min in length, an incredible feat for an adaptation of a 200-page children's book while both remaining faithful and not dragging on at any point.
can I reserve my copy on DVD now?

Just a quick point: Mike Faherty, President of Walden Media which did LWW, has been doing the talk radio rounds. Here's Hewitt's interview - very interesting. He's been dreaming and working on this for 6 years now. Contrast this with the way the Harry Potter movies are being rushed into production; obviously the Narnia films are going to be more faithful to the content and spirit of the books.
I haven't seen LWW yet, but I've heard nothing but good reviews. I've enjoyed the HP movies, but there is usually something wrong, e.g., most of the kids couldn't act in the first film, the third film had wardrobe problems, the fourth film cuts out major portions of the plot, etc. I think that Walden will run into some of the same "aging" problems with the kids, though. Raking in some dough won't hurt any - maybe it can help speed up production for filming Prince Caspian.

oh yeah, may I just add that the girl who played Lucy was simply the most adorable kid ever?!?

Thanks for the mini-review, Tommy.
I may go see the flick this weekend.

Narnia is better than Potter!
