Welcome to Fantasy Fiction for Christians!

This is a place for Christians who read fantasy fiction to discuss Christian themes and symbolism found in the pages of fantasy literature, popular and classic.

The Harry Potter books renewed my interest in C.S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia, and I decided to create a blog where like-minded Christians could come together and talk about Harry Potter theories, predictions for Book 7, the upcoming Narnia movie, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and more.

For the rest of the year, news and commentary on the movies "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" and "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" will likely be the focus of this blog. In addition to Harry Potter hoopla for die-hard Potterheads, however, FFC will strive to be a clearinghouse for Christian fantasy fiction written by various authors, well-known and not-yet well-known.

FFC is:

• A blog dedicated to discussing Christian themes and symbolism in fantasy literature;
• An attempt to clear up misconceptions about certain fantasy fiction, Harry Potter in particular;
• A forum for me to share my enthusiasm for reading and reviewing books;
• Open to non-Christians who want to discuss Christian themes and symbolism in fantasy literature.

FFC is NOT:

• A portal for celebrity news. There are plenty of what-Daniel-Radcliffe-is-doing-now sites on the Internet. However… I am interested in news tips, tidbits, or other interesting items. E-mail me;
• A sounding board for Christians to warn FFC readers and commenters about the "dangers" of reading books with "occultic" elements. I believe some of our brothers and sisters in Christ have our best interests in mind with such warnings. Although we appreciate it, this is not the forum.

  I firmly believe Christians can use a pop cultural phenomenon like Harry Potter to share spiritual truths with unbelievers. While I am silent on the question of whether children should read the Harry Potter books (which are not written for children, according to author J.K. Rowling), especially Books 3-6, I think Christian parents can use these and other books containing magical elements, in conjunction with the Bible, to teach them to discern what are appropriate and inappropriate supernatural depictions.

At this point I don't know if this blog will last until I get Harry Potter mania out of my system or whether it will become the go-to site for fantasy fiction for Christians. What ever Fantasy Fiction for Christians becomes, I hope you enjoy it as much as I will.
