…I'll resume posting at FFC. Been busy doing politics-related TV and radio stuff for the other blog, and working on bill-paying projects. I shall, as they say, return. Thanks for reading FFC.
Monday, July 9: Did you know that Steve Vander Ark, creator of the popular Harry Potter Lexicon, was a Christian? I didn't until I read this:
The family attends Hillside Christian Reformed Church, which leads to the question a lot of people have asked him.
How can you support this Harry Potter stuff? It's evil! … Vander Ark sighs. No, he says. It isn't evil.
"I'm a Christian school librarian," he says. "I've taken books off shelves that I don't think are appropriate for kids. That's what librarians do. That's what parents do.
"There are some things that shouldn't be in kids' hands," he says. "But Harry Potter isn't one of them. Here's a kid who fights against evil at the risk of his own life. That's more Christian than playing Monopoly, where you try to slaughter the other players and leave them destitute.

Angela Montefinise, a New York Post reporter, Quibbler blogger, and Harry Potter fan, interviewed me for her Potter fan profile series. The pictures I took of myself with my Harry Potter stuff are a little corny, but I had fun posing.
Angela did a great job with the profile, but I want to make a few things clear. Although I'm a bit critical of Christians who condemn the books, I do understand their concerns. I certainly don't want to alienate fellow believers.
I started this blog because I wanted to encourage other Christian HP fans to discuss the books. I was delighted when I found other Christian HP writers and bloggers, like John Granger, Travis Prinzi, and the guys at Muggle Matters. I didn't know such people existed, given the media's coverage of Christians opposed to the books.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the profile. An excerpt:

For reasons I don't care to disclose at the moment, I am not in Las Vegas having fun with fellow Harry Potter fanatics.
But Merlin of Muggle Matters is there, blogging and posting pics. Visit Muggle Matters for the latest Lumos news.
Lumos 2006: A Harry Potter Symposium is a three-and-a-half- day conference (from July 27-30) packed with Harry Potter-related workshops and presentations. Featured topics are Literary Criticism, Education, Social Sciences, Legal, Film, and Fandom Culture. John Granger, various writers, and academics will make presentations and offer in-depth discussions and a lot theorizing.
Mugglenet.com's Andrew Sims is uploading Lumos photos to his Flickr account.
The Leaky Cauldron folks are also posting photos from the conference.
Update (7/31): Post-Lumos reports from Merlin at Muggle Matters, Melissa Anelli of the Leaky Cauldron…
While you're waiting for me to blog about something interesting, check out a post by Merlin at Muggle Matters (say that five times fast) called X-Men 3, Harry Potter and the Imago Dei. I saw X-Men: The Last Stand the other day, and I'll review it…if I find time.
Spoiler Alert!!!
Merlin's post reminds me of a scene that foreshadowed the final scene. Professor Xavier was teaching a class on mutant ethics and briefly discussed the ethics of transferring your consciousness (after your body is destroyed?) into the mind of a person in a vegetative state. The scene ended abruptly when the professor became distracted by a troubled teacher. Read Merlin's post, but only if you've seen X-Men or want to see it.
Merlin sees a "Horcrux connection" in the movie. Wonder what that's about…

Travis Prinzi reviews The Magical Worlds of Narnia.
Update (4/5): Or Thursday.

Hello, readers. I wanted to give you a status report on this blog.
I support myself with ads on my main blog, La Shawn Barber's Corner, and through my blog consulting business. I occasionally speak at conferences, mostly blog-related. That means Fantasy Fiction for Christians doesn't get updated as often as I'd like. Not enough hours in the day.
I enjoy talking and writing about Harry Potter and Narnia, and I will continue blogging about them and other fantasy fiction books. If I can get to the point of updating this blog at least once a week, I'll be happy.
In the meantime, look for fresh content on Wednesday. While you're surfing, visit my fantasy fiction (and other topics) blog friends:
Tomorrow marks the 33rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade. In what was hailed a "victory" for women, the Supreme Court wrote a new law, giving us the "right of privacy" to have our babies slaughtered in the womb without fear of prosecution for homicide for ourselves and the abortionists.
This "right" is so dear to feminists, they demonize any person or organization that dares insinuate that protecting unborn life should take precedence over convenience or the so-called right to do with our bodies whatever we want. On Monday, there'll be plenty of people saying it directly and even going beyond it: abortion is murder, and no one has a right to commit murder.
The annual March for Life rally will begin on Monday, January 23, at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., at 12:00 p.m. After the rally, participants will walk to the U.S. Capitol. This will be my first year in attendance. Before the rally, I'll attend the first annual Blogs4Life Conference at the Family Research Council. If you're hanging out in DC that day, swing by.
Pro-life Blogger Stacy Harp of Mind and Media talks about Justice Sunday III with Sharon Hughes.
Listen to Part I and Part II (RealAudio) of Christian apologist abd debater James White's sermon on abortion. White is a dynamic, engaging, and knowledgeable speaker, so I encourage you to listen.
